Beef Burgers

These homemade burgers are very nice with fries or chips and go very well with almost any burger topping. With most burgers from the supermarket, there are all sorts of nonsense in them, but with these, you know exactly what you are putting in them; and you can change it about to have whatever flavouring you like. You could have it spicy, or how about with ketchup!?

What You Need

For the burgers:

500g minced beef

1 egg

½ onion

2 garlic cloves, crushed

Pinch of salt and pepper

1 tablespoon olive oil

For the rest of the burger:

Burger buns

Iceberg lettuce

Plastic cheese

Large tomatoes

Ketchup (optional)

Olive (optional)

Medium skewer

These ingredients are enough to make 4-5 burgers

How You Make It

First, empty the beef into a very large (ideally plastic) bowl and pour in the beef and crack in the egg. Mix with your hands, like you are kneading a dough for about 3 minutes. Now add the onion, garlic, and the salt and pepper and knead some more. A good idea is to get the meat out of the fridge about an hour before you start to handle it as it is pretty cold, and your fingers would probably get quite cold whilst kneading it.

Put the olive oil in the pan and heat up to a medium heat. Whilst that is heating up, shape your burgers, they can be any size you want, but ideally, you want them the size of your burger buns. When the oil is hot, place the burgers in the pan and flip them with a spatula every 2-3 minutes.

When they are cooking, you can prepare the bun and the fillings. For the burger buns, slice them in half and leave them on a chopping board. Wash your lettuce, dry and cut into the size of your burger buns. Finally slice the tomatoes and place them on the chopping board as well, ready for when the burgers come out of the pan.

The burgers should nearly be done so to check them, you can gently dig a knife into them and pull out some meat from the middle, it should be grey, just like the outside. If they are done you can start to assemble, but if they are not done, you should leave them in until they are and keep checking them like before.

To assemble, place the burger on the bun and put the plastic cheese on top. There is no compulsory order to put these things on, but the cheese must go on the top of the burger so that it will melt. Next you can put the rest of your toppings on and close it with the top burger bun. Place the olive on the top of the top burger bun and place the skewer through it. And you are done, enjoy!
